Not by Sight.
Do you ever read a verse from God's Word, maybe even a verse you've read many times, but it just slams you? Knocks you down and washes over and suddenly everything just.makes.more.sense.
YouVersion's verse of the day for Monday was 2 Corinthians 5:7. I'd already read the verse more than once that afternoon, working around it in my inbox. (I usually don't delete the notifs until the next day, to make sure I read them at least a time or two throughout the day.)
For we walk by faith, not by sight.
// 2 Corinthians 5:7 kjv
At that particular knock-your-socks-off moment, I had finished homework and was clicking through a few email that had appeared in the meanwhile. I came back to the verse and my eyes landed on the words.
I read it. And stopped. Stared. Read it again.
Paul wrote to the church of Corinth that we walk by faith and not by sight.
By faith, y'all. Faith means believing that He's in control, even we when can't see His presence. Faith means trusting that He has a plan, even in the chaos. Faith means knowing there is light even when all we see is darkness.
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
// Hebrews 11:1 kjv
Not by sight. Ya know, it doesn't matter what we can or can't see. Things in our lives that we have no idea how they can work out. Relationships that are so strained and distant we wonder if they'll ever be as strong as they once were. We can't see how God will work in these situations. But I promise you, friend. He will. He is right now, even as you read these scribblings from my heart.
You know what else we don't have to see? Our futures.
Can you envision what your life will be like five years from now? If so, super. Follow God and I'm sure the outcome will be amazing. But what if we can't? Are we doing something wrong?
No, my friend, we're not. Because we're having the chance to walk by faith, and not by sight. Trusting that His plans are good, even when we have no idea what they are. Believe that His timing is best, even when you're so tired of waiting.
There is always a reason, for the pain and the waiting and the unknowns. Hold to His promises, walk by faith, and one day—it'll all make sense.
I literally wrote this in, like, ten minutes on Monday evening. I'm quite certian God intended the message for me, but maybe it will touch you too. <33
