Wake Up Call.
There have been many bad things happening in the world around us lately. Fires in the western end of the country. The hurricanes – Harvey, Irma, Maria, and now Nate. The earthquakes in Mexico. The recent shooting in Las Vegas. There are probably other incidents, but these are what first come to my mind.
It's horrible and heartbreaking. People often ask questions in times of tragedy – myself included. Why? Why me? Why this? Why now? Why all this hurt, God?
I don't know the answer; I honestly don't. But here's what has been heavy on my mind concerning this of late.
What if it's a wake-up call?
A wake up call from God, trying to get America's attention. We've fallen so far away from Him, and yet He offers grace. In His goodness, He nudges us back toward the straight and narrow. Back to Him.
His grace and mercy is there and waiting. The question is: how will we respond?

Pretty short, but it's what I've got. ;) Share your thoughts on the topic if you'd care to!
Also, two quick things to take note of... There will not be a post here on CV next Saturday. If you'd like an explanation on that, take a look at this post.
Another thing, a guest post written by yours truly will be up on More Precious than Gold this week! I encourage you to pop over and check it out sometime, along with the rest of this great series Ashley has going on. :D
Thanks for reading and God bless! <3

You know, I wondered if anyone else thought like that. I sometimes wonder about these events if God places them in places that need to turn back.
ReplyDeleteHurricane Harvey hit Houston hard. While I hardly saw any affects where I live, maybe some rain and wind, there were places along the coast suffering. Port Aransas, which I've been to at least twice, is gone.
Houston is probably the most sinful part of Texas. They do things against the law and they don't care. These other places that have been hit have all shown resistance to things they shouldn't resist. While I'm not at all saying all of these people affected deserved this, because I don't think they do, I do wonder if this is something to turn their eyes back to God.
Many Christians think its a sign of the end times. But I just don't feel like we're at that point yet. I feel like God has so many plans and while the media is showing all the bad, there is still a lot of good in this world. We still have potential. We can still turn to God.
I'm glad it isn't just something I think of or that my family ponders. Thank you for doing a post like this.
I apologize for the extremely long comment. XD

I did not realize Houston was a 'bad' city. I mean, I figured they had there share of problems, but around here we usually hear about Texas in a good way. ;)
DeleteOh, I agree, Ivie! I've heard others say that, almost bemoaningly that this is it. Isn't that a dismal way to view things though? I'm ready to meet Him whenever it's time, but there are a lot of people in the world who aren't ready. I have been praying for America to experience a second great awakening. :)
Thank you for commenting and sharing your thoughts! :D
Hm these are some good thoughts. I've been wondering the same as well lately - if God is using these things to draw us closer to Him. I know that He is using them in some way, I just may never know until we get to heaven one day :) Great post! And I can't wait to get your post up on my blog!
ReplyDeleteYes, exactly. I don't believe all this pain and suffering does not have a purpose. Thank you, Ashley! :)
DeleteThere is so much devastation in the world. Not only natural disasters but just mankind's sin. I have never been able to understand how someone could hurt another person on purpose because of reasons like greed, jealously, anger; etc.. I was just thinking today of our greedy our world has become. People just want more. And we all desire more.... because we all have something inside us that can't be filled by this world... only by Jesus.
ReplyDeleteOn Sunday we were studying in Philippians 4 and Paul was talking about how he found he secret to contentment. It isn't found in our circumstances but in Jesus. Not in ownership but relationship.
And yes, this might be a wake up call for the world. I was recently reading through Hosea and it told of God's just nature and His rightneous anger toward Israel for their disobedience... but then it shows His Grace, mercy, and love. He wants us to turn to Him.
Sadly we just know things are going to get worse.
We just need to keep our eyes on Jesus and trust Him as hard as that is at times.
Thanks for this reminder Faith :)
Amen, Sarah! Thank you so much for commenting and sharing your thoughts on the subject with me. :D
Delete"Not in ownership but relationship." Wow, I loved that. So true! <3
Thanks for reading! :D
Good thoughts.
ReplyDeleteThough we can not read the Father's mind, we know much about His character.
He is good and good always.
He will not leave His children wandering.
In relentless pursuit He will fight over every last one of us until the day He returns.
Thanks for sharing!
What a beautifully-worded reminder! The Father's love for us will never run dry. <3
DeleteThank you for commenting and sharing, Ashley!
This is so, so true. So much is going on right now. It seems like it is incessant- something bad happens everyday. All we can do is trust that the Lord's plan will prevail.

Agreed. <3 His plan is ultimately for good, whether we can see that right now or not.
